CELEBRATE EASTER WITH YOUR DOG SAFELY

CELEBRATE EASTER WITH YOUR DOG SAFELY

The beautiful days continue with the arrival of Easter and the search for eggs.

A convivial and pleasant moment to spend with your family and your dog.

However, a few precautions must be taken so that this moment is a success for everyone.

The house and garden will be filled with chocolates and sweets to delight the children’s taste buds.

We will therefore give you some precautions to take in order to preserve your canine friends from the various dangers that may be present during this festive day in our eyes.

CHOCOLATE AND THE DOG

Many people know this, but it’s a good idea to remind them:

Chocolate is toxic to dogs.

A small dose will have no impact, but in high doses or distributed regularly, it can become dangerous very quickly. Many poisonings happen every year due to the greed of our dogs.

Where does the toxicity come from?

Chocolate is made up of cocoa, which contains theobromine.

This is a dangerous substance because it attacks the nervous system. Dark chocolate is therefore the most risky for Titou.

The toxic quantity for a dog of about 20 kg would be 25g of dark chocolate. So be careful not to leave a bar lying around on the table.

How to recognize a poisoning ?

Your dog may experience vomiting and diarrhea, convulsions, abnormal agitation and/or difficulty breathing.

How do you react to this situation if it happens?

Call your veterinarian or a poison control center right away and explain the emergency. There is no antidote for chocolate poisoning, but your veterinarian will be able to set up a symptomatic treatment depending on your dog’s condition.

PLASTIC DECORATION ELEMENTS

Themed decorations are all the rage these days. It’s easy to find small plastic animals or pretty wicker baskets to decorate the house for the occasion, but this can attract Titou to chew them and swallow them, risking intestinal obstruction.

You’ll have to be careful about where you decorate to avoid a visit to the vet! Choose high places, out of reach of your dog.

SPEND EASTER DAY WITH YOUR FAMILY AND YOUR DOG

The dog is now part of our family, of our daily lives.

We want to share our daily activities with him and it is quite normal.

How do we properly include him in this Easter egg hunt day?

Instead of giving him chocolate to look for in the garden, you can hide some delicious treats to give him a mental and physical exercise.

He’ll use his truffle and enjoy the sun with you.

Lock Titou up while you look for the children with the chocolates to avoid an accident and then let him have his own time so he can enjoy an activity with you in the garden or the house.

This activity can be shared with the whole family. Some can keep the dog busy while others hide the treats or chew bones in the garden, or you can encourage the dog to search and congratulate him warmly when he finds one of his treasures.

You can also decorate the Easter eggs with your family beforehand: the children can paint them and the dog can put his paw on them with water-based paint that is safe for him, to add a touch of originality!

You can also capture this moment by taking fun pictures of your dog next to the basket of eggs with your children, which will allow you to work on the educational basics while keeping a good memory of this moment with your family.

To conclude, I would say that celebrating Easter is an activity that you can share with your dog, so that he becomes more and more part of the family circle.

You just have to take a few precautions for the safety of all, and it will be a pleasant moment for all and will engrave good memories together!
