THOSE DOGS THAT CAN’T BE DOGS ANYMORE

THESE DOGS THAT ARE ROBOTIC

Today dogs are not allowed to be dogs anymore. The slightest behavior is controlled and questioned. I am not talking about extreme or excessive behaviors. I am talking about behaviors that are basically normal for the dog. And which have become forbidden to them because of the current human demands. Our society would like animals to be clean from the first day, blindly obedient and without any overflowing emotion under penalty of having the disapproving looks of others on us. Except that a dog remains a dog with dog behaviors. It is obvious that we have to educate him so that he can adapt to our world, but it is up to us not to disrespect them.Imagine that you were made a remark every time you were on your phone? This is what we do when we pull or scold our dog when he has the misfortune to sniff a scent on the ground for too long. I’m not saying that these behaviors should be accepted without saying anything, but they are basically normal. If they are disturbing to you, your dog or your family, you can totally work on getting your dog to reduce his annoying behaviors, but most of them can’t be eliminated. Simply because these behaviors, such as digging or sniffing a trail, are what we call “intrinsic” behaviors. An intrinsic behavior is a behavior that is innate to the dog and natural to its species. The dog is an opportunistic animal, which means that it will do and produce behaviors that are good for it. It is in no way to annoy us. To solve undesirable behaviors, you can approach a professional dog behaviorist who will be able to help you according to the precise problem you have.

OUR DOGS DO THE BEST THEY CAN

Our dogs are under a lot of pressure to be perfect: to be sociable, nice, obedient, sporty, calm, etc. We must not forget that a dog is an individual with needs to be met. Yes, a dog can take time to be clean.Yes, a dog can pull on a leash if he never goes out.Yes, a dog may not listen if he sees a dog friend even though he never sees one. Some dogs will be very gifted and will learn everything much faster than others.Every little step counts and we must be happy about every progress. Every little step counts and you have to be happy with every progress, because you don’t become the “ideal dog” in 5 sessions or in a few weeks, because it will remain a lifetime work.Would you like to be paid for your work the first months of your life, and when it is correct and well done, from one day to the next: no more salary? Most dogs live this with their humans who want to suppress at all costs the rewards such as the treat which is still too much demonized at the present time. Learning takes time, requires analysis and questioning.

If Titou doesn’t listen to the recall, maybe the environment is too stimulating? If Tartine had a potty training accident at 4 months and 7 hours of absence, it is maybe quite normal, no? The dog doesn’t have the notion to do things to “disobey” for free. They are dogs, and not objects that we take and put back when it suits us according to our planning. Let’s respect our dogs, because they show an enormous adaptability to live with us.
