To all those little misunderstood dogs
Since the beginning of time, society has considered small dogs as fragile beings that need to be protected from the bad world.
They do not leave their garden, or only a little.
They are systematically taken in arms thinking that the slightest effort will be fatal to them.
If behavioral problems appear (reactivity, barking, uncleanliness, etc.), they are considered “normal” because Titou’s size is not difficult to control at the end of the leash…
But :
SMALL DOGS HAVE NEEDS TOO
To all those little misunderstood dogs
A dog is still a dog, no matter how big it is.
Cane corso, German shepherd or Chihuahua, the size is indeed not the same.
But its needs as an individual must also be met (going outside, meeting other dogs, chewing, playing with its human, etc.).
Of course, it will be necessary to carry it in front of a big rock during a walk in comparison with a medium size.
One step for a large dog will mean several steps for a smaller one.
It is up to us to be careful where we walk, and to respect his walking rhythm.
But the little ones can also climb and have fun like everyone else.
Despite their small size, a small dog can be very active and can get very bored if he stays in his house all day.
And this can also lead to behavioral problems.

LET’S TALK ABOUT SMALL DOG TRAINING
Titou pees on the living room carpet, barks at the dogs and pulls like a madman on his leash, but it doesn’t matter, it’s easy to clean up and it’s much easier to restrain a pulling Yorkshire than a Rottweiler.
Let’s take the example of the dog that barks at other dogs.
A small dog that is uncomfortable around other people is really something to be taken seriously.
Just because the behavior is considered “cute” does not mean it should be taken lightly.
In the end, the discomfort remains the same for all dogs: fear, stress, aggressiveness?
Did he have bad experiences in his past? Has he seen enough other dogs when he was a puppy? There are many different reasons for your small dog’s annoying behaviors that are unique to each individual.
Don’t hesitate to call on a positive dog trainer if you have any questions about your dog’s behavior.

THE SAFETY OF THE SMALL DOG
It is obvious that a small dog will have more difficulties to climb stairs, or will have more risks to be stepped on. While preserving its nature of dog, there are many alternatives to help them to live better in our world of big: bags of transport, baby carriages, sweaters for winter, etc.
Carrying a dog in the middle of the city to avoid unintentional kicks or bags, or putting on a piece of clothing if it is shivering from the cold in winter is not a crime, far from it.
I live with two shepherd dogs, one of which is a small size (welsh corgi cardigan) and a pug.
Both shepherds are very cold hardy and even love to roll around in the frost or snow, but the pug tends to shake quickly.
So he has fleeces and raincoats so that outings are pleasant for him and he doesn’t have to endure the freezing temperatures.
Listening and adapting to your dog is the best proof of love you can give him.
You don’t get a small dog in the hope that it will stay in the apartment and do its business in a litter box (yes, we have been asked about that), nor do you consider it as a toy that you can put nail polish and curlers on.
A small dog, it is trained.
A small dog, it has the right to dig, roll, play, run, chew.
A small dog, it goes out. Every day.
A small dog doesn’t necessarily want to be petted by everyone.
A small dog should not be placed in a golden palace.
A small dog, no matter how small, remains a canine like any other.
So let’s respect them.
Thank you for them.
